Day 1 - Sydney
What a looong flight! We were delayed in Houston because of weather, so were about an hour late landing in Sydney. But, we made it! Got to our hotel a little after 9 AM. Here’s the view from our room.
We had added early check-in to our reservation, so our room was all ready for us. After refreshing showers, we headed out to see the sights. (There’s a heat advisory today, so the afternoon was over 100!)
We decided to do the Hop On/Hop Off bus so we could see
where everything is and plan out our next days.
One of the bell hops told us how to get to the closest stop, but
unfortunately we were directionally challenged today. I feel like we walked around in circles for
way too long. But eventually we found it
and hopped on.
By this point, I was starving (breakfast on the plane was a
disgusting cold mess), so at the first stop with restaurants, we hopped
off. Our first meal in Australia was
pasta bolognaise and fish and chips. (I
know the pasta is nowhere near Australian, but I spent quite a while on the
plane watching “Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy,” and the food he ate looked
so delicious. I had never seen that
show, but it won 7 Emmy’s, so check it out if you like Italian.)
After lunch we hopped back on. Unfortunately, the time difference and the
heat was taking it’s toll. I probably
would have usually enjoyed the narrative, but it was putting me to sleep and I
just wanted to get into some cool air.
So, when we got to a stop close to the hotel, we hopped off again. Then spent some time wandering around in
circles until we made it back here. Ah,
air conditioning!!
Tomorrow is supposed to be way cooler – high of 74 – so although there’s a chance of rain in the forecast, it will be a great day to visit the Opera House and maybe take a boat across the bay and have lunch at Bondi Beach.
Here's a couple more pictures from this afternoon.
I think it will be early bird dinner tonight for us. (If I can wake Lee up. 😂) Also, I don't know how to change the date/time, so this is actually being published on Jan 28 at 3:49PM.
Wow! What a day!! ❤️
