Day 10 – Travel to Brisbane

The Meke and Fire Show last night was really good.  We asked where it was to be held, and they said near the swim-up bar.  So, we went quite early to the beachside bar, just across from the swim-up.  Not many people there, so we chose a couple seats and asked if we’d be able to see the show from them.  The bartender said yes, of course.  Well, they were actually the perfect seats – front row!  I took a ton of pictures.

Then, the performers moved down to the beach for the fire show.  Safety first!  Really cool show.

This morning we ate the rest of our croissants and fruit for breakfast.  We had arranged for a 12:30 taxi to the airport, but checkout was 11:00, and there were no restaurants or bars at the resort open for lunch until noon.  So, we elected to just get a cab at 11:00 after we checked out.

Our cab driver was very nice.  He was pointing out some sights along the way to the airport.  At one point, he said, “There to the left is where the US Air Force had their base in 1942 during World War 2.”  I said, “That looks just like an Air Force base. We were both in the US Air Force.”  And he said, “HOW OLD WERE YOU IN 1942?”  OMG!!  I know we are old, but really!!

So, we got to the airport very early.  They are very structured with check-ins, so we had well over an hour before could even check in and go through security.  Luckily, there were restaurants outside security, so we had some lunch and did a little shopping.  Lee found some Kava powder, and I found a sort of Christmas ornament.  (My souvenirs generally consist of Christmas tree ornaments, so each year when I decorate the tree, I can reminisce about all the places we have visited. They didn’t have any actual ornaments, but I found a lightweight keychain I can turn into an ornament.)

Breezed through check in and security, and still had 3 hours before boarding.  Ugh.

  1. It looks.... like the fire show was excellent!!!! I would love to watch something like that. And again, I truly think I would love to watch one (or more) of the dance shows. Did Lee bring back a grass skirt ? I'll supply the face paint and maybe he would do a dance for me......away from the fire dance of course. Chat with ya next time......Safe flights ....luv ya both
